The 1975 singer made a name for himself during the band’s previous tour after he pulled outlandish onstage antics that left audience members in shock.
From eating raw meat to kissing concert-goers and getting a tattoo in the middle of a show – ticket-holders were never quite sure what they were signing up for when they walked through arenas’ turnstiles.
Despite a reputation for the wild and unpredictable, the formally dressed frontman sparked reactions online after he delivered what was deemed the most ‘normal’ speech of the night after winning a statue for best alternative/rock act.
Taking to the stage at London’s 02 arena, the singer kept it short and sweet reeling off conservative “thank yous” to various music industry personnel and disappeared backstage.
Twitter was alight with comments following the artist’s words and many commented on the ‘weird’ ceremony they felt was unfolding before their eyes.
A fan typed: ‘You know this show has been weird as fuck when Matt Healy has been the most normal person all night [sic]’.
‘Not Matt Healy giving the most normal speech of the night [sic],’ another said.
This account noted: ‘Omg. Matt Healy looks so like his dad. That was a very brief acceptance speech. He looked a bit awkward. And miserable. #brits [sic]’.
While one fan joked: ‘Everyone expected Matt Healy to eat a live chicken then’.
The night was a triumph for Indie duo Wet Leg and Harry Styles as both took home multiple awards for their bodies of work.
Weird and wonderful moments were seen elsewhere however with outfits on the red carpet turning heads for their daring choices.
Ashnikko donned a nude latex dress that featured huge boils down the back of the gown and resembled something out of an alien flick.
Sam Smith didn’t disappoint either with a black latex suit that was blown up around their limbs.
The singer also took to the stage and performed their hit with Kim Petras in a musical extravaganza that ended in a raunchy kiss.
