Tottenham are interested in signing Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi this summer but could face competition from Chelsea for the defender’s signature.
Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis
The England U21 international left Chelsea for Palace in 2021 for a fee of £18m.
Guehi has since established himself as a regular at Selhurst Park and he has three England caps to his name in recognition of his progress.
Antonio Conte is keen to strengthen his backline this summer, with doubts lingering over Davinson Sanchez’s future and uncertainty over Clement Lenglet beyond his season-long loan deal.
However, Guehi’s departure has already reflected badly on Chelsea and seeing him join a top six rival would further suggest the club made a mistake in letting him go.
Chelsea have a sizeable sell-on clause in Guehi’s contract, meaning they would be entitled to a portion of any sale that Palace agree too.
But a concern for Spurs could be another clause where Chelsea can match any accepted bid for Guehi.
Chelsea have spent big on the likes of Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly in the last seven months but they are still reliant on Thiago Silva.
The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the season and it’s unclear whether he will sign the one-year extension offered to him by the club.
